Rampart and Vineland installed recently.
10-20 miles ready for installation soon, including:
- Winnetka removal of peak hr lane in each direction, met with Councilmember,
» need back-up from BAC at NC. Glenn will cover an upcoming meeting.
- Wilbur Chatsworth to Napa, Councilmember wants resurfacing first, but it’s not on paving list.
- Vermont (which is half County half city), I-105 to Gage, not controversial.
- York road diet, Councilmember and NC supportive
- Devonshire is going in, Councilmember supports, low impact; not a road diet
- White Oak going in, NC seems supportive, no impact
Glenn: need to close gap on Plumber west of CSUN
CD 15: BLs on Weymouth Ave., more will be coming
» let Brad know
Rose Ave. BLs, Lincoln > 4th, several parking spaces need to be removed, could be controversial with merchants, awaiting Council Office response.
Larchmont, Labonge wants diagonal parking, encourage him to try back-in parallel (safer for cyclists, better visitibility when pulling out, safer for kids exiting cars).
10-15 projects are in design
SM Blvd. gap in lanes east of Cent City; in BP? 5 year plan? width constraints?
» Alert Bikeways Subcom
4. Mobility Plan update
A Mobility Element Workshop was held concurrent to this meeting.  Awaiting report from BAC members who attended.
One presentation showed numerous bikeway innovations from northern Europe.  For example, use of a bypass lane for cyclists to pass buses that are stopped to pick up passengers.  Applicable to Santa Monica Blvd. as a pilot?
5. Wayfinding project update
Nate has got good input from LA2B meetings, there is a web input resource at LA Bike Blog.
Focus will be on BFSs in first year, tho problem areas will also be addressed.
Sign installation will begin this year.
Regarding use of signs to assist cyclists finding significant private destinations, this is fully within the scope of what is envisioned.
6. Expo Bikeway
(Planning issues only; Bikeways Committee to take up design issues.)
Discussion of LADOT’s parking lot near Expo station, to be converted to joint-use parking structure with Expo parking.  Good location for bike parking?
How much space is needed by Parking Enforcement building?  Suitable location for bike commuter center? Seek advice from Santa Monica.  Steve and Tim will inquire when they meet with SM staff.
Michelle: wants to get staff out there to explore it.  Will be doing an in-house meeting.
Ck with Metro about cement plant property; who owns it?
» Make motion: need space for bike parking at LADOT lot, expandability of racks and lockers.
UPDATE: site visit later in week suggested the planned Expo / LADOT parking structure may be too far from station platforms to attract much use by cyclists, based on Metro’s experience of existing stations with similar facilities described by Lynne Goldsmith.  There remains, however, a need to find space for expanding bike parking at the Sepulveda station area.
7.  Crenshaw LRT bikeway.  no report
8. NBC Universal project.
Submitting $18mil Tiger grant for LA River Bikeway Network which would bring the path right up to Univsal’s property.  This argues strongly for the path to continue by Universal.
CBS also wants the bike path to jog around its property.
Additional items from Michelle:
Applied for grants for:
OTS grant for edu with CICLE.
Caltrans planning grant for outreach in south LA with LACBC.
Three Safe Routes to School granta:
Helmel area
Pacoima on Pierce
Multi-use trail in LA River headwaters area
